(006) Working NYFW SS25
Woohoo another blog post! This has been so much fun whipping these out the last couple of weeks, thank you to everyone for the support and kind text messages, it means the world to me that people enjoy this! This past week has been chaotic, in the best way, working New York Fashion Week for the second year. I was working every day until 11 at night. This year, I worked the Brandon Maxwell SS25 show + Walmart Popup Party (which I also helped plan!!!!) and the Marie Claire 30th Anniversary Party with Bloomingdale’s.
Friday, September 6th — Brandon Maxwell SS25 Runway Show + Walmart PopUp Shop Launch Party.
I get so nervous working these shows because I feel like such a nobody with all the cool industry people. But, the Brandon shows are always so fabulous and the people are amazing. Like, it could not have gone better on Friday. The first show I worked on, I was mainly seating guests and helping the flow at the “front of house”, but in this show, I was working backstage.
My main job was to make sure that the assigned photographers were 1. all where they needed to be and 2. that they got the content they needed. There were 4 media stickers for access; First looks, backstage, front of house, and riser. Backstage is just BTS of content of the models getting ready and first looks is when the models all are dressed and ready backstage. Riser is the first photos of the models on the runway and front of house are the people in attendance. I was working with only first looks and backstage photographers.
I tried to get as much content as I could but felt a little awkward because I was supposed to be working (hehe.) Anyway, the show was fabulous. This is one of my favorite seasons from Brandon - he is such an icon and I can’t believe we actually have spoken to each other. After the show, I ran over to the pop-up shop! Brandon is the creative director of Free Assembly and Scoop under Walmart and we had a party to celebrate the first-ever pop-up show.
This party was soooo fun. I got to help curate the guest list and we had some iconic influencers and celebrities show up. I was in the same room as the queen Suni Lee. (This is such a bad photo but I needed to take one to capture the moment.)
We had drinks, Shake Shack burgers and fries, and a DJ. People had such a great time shopping around, the collection was adorable.
I was exhausted by the time I got home and my feet were on fire, but so worth it!
Tuesday, September 10th — Marie Claire 30th Anniversary Party and the Launch of Bloomingdale’s Fall Campaign, From Italy With Love.
This was also such a surreal experience being able to work with an iconic magazine and department store. Bloomingdale’s is my favorite store, I could probably spend hours on each floor going through brand after brand. At the party, everything was decorated like we were in Italy to celebrate Bloomingdale’s collection. There were also photos of all the iconic Marie Claire covers with celebrities like Halle Berry, Ariana Grande, Heidi Klum, Beyonce, and more. I was the check in girl so I was able to meet all the guests invited. I met Nia from Dance Moms (who I was most starstruck from), Tayshia Adams, Liza Koshy, Paris Jackson Chris Klemens, and more.
After the party, I headed over to a restaurant for a more intimate dinner hosted by the Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire, and the Ready to Wear Fashion Director of Bloomingdale’s. Another amazing event where I met icons like Tefi, Amelie Zilber, Bailey Bass, Serena Kerrigan, and Sai de Silva!
Tefi was the nicest person I have ever met. We introduced ourselves to each other and she even offered to help me with seating. She was at the Brandon Maxwell show as well!
It’s a funny perspective actually having to work shows and events like this. The PR people wear black so we kinda lurk behind the attendees since were making sure everything runs smoothly. It can be super stressful and chaotic but it’s a great experience and helps you work on skills that are so important for any industry.
That’s all the fashion week content from me! Fashion show reviews to come, this season was AMAZING — the shows were spectacular and I only wish I could attend more.
BTW! If you want to work fashion week next season, send emails to PR agencies asking to volunteer!!! There is always a need for volunteers!
